A first-class builder becomes a family friend through renovation

When Hap and Ann Lindell of Terrace Park were seeking a general contractor to renovate their contemporary 1975 home, only Steve Fletcher was able to answer the Lindells’ question, “How long will the project take to complete?”

Fletcher not only said he would give the Lindells their new space by Thanksgiving—he did it—and the couple hosted their family’s Thanksgiving dinner that year.

Hap and Ann hired Fletcher in the fall of 2001 to add a downstairs bedroom and bath to their home, plus add access to the home from the original detached garage. Architect Larry Norris worked closely with Fletcher and his crew during the renovation. The pair worked together to suggest changes that could save the family valuable time and make the project as seamless with the original home as possible.

“Fletcher has an amazing tracking system,” Hap said. “Their on-site supervisor has a complete timeline that tracks progress day-by-day, and we were able to track it very well.”

Fletcher also impressed the Lindells with the quality of the people he hired to work in their home. “The workers were there when we awoke every morning,” Ann said. “They were very pleasant to be around and very exact in what they did.”

Ann added that Fletcher’s team took measures to keep the family as comfortable as possible during construction. They taped off rooms being renovated and even took care to watch out for the family dog.

“There was no one in our home that I would have questioned being here,” Ann said. “Steve’s honesty and honorability lend him to having subcontractors with the same principles as him.”

The Lindells believe Fletcher’s experience in building his own homes has given him the perspective of both sides of the process, and he only hires those he would hire to work in his own home.

Hap and Ann are more than pleased with the addition to their home, and continue to recommend Fletcher to anyone embarking on such a project.

“All the amenities we wanted were done right,” Hap said. “We were able to match hard-to-find 20-foot cedar boards, constructed a seamless tie in with the new roof and existing roof, painted the new areas to match the existing areas, and finished it off with beautiful landscaping.” Ann’s favorite feature is the laundry room Fletcher placed between their master suite and closet. “It’s perfect for doing laundry,” she said. And there are no stairs to climb.

Hap and Ann celebrated the perfect renovation by having Norris and Fletcher over for a cocktail. “He’s a first-class builder and a genuinely wonderful person,” Hap said.
